Rural Acreage Owner Pesticide Certified Program

The Rural Acreage Owner Herbicide Program was initiated to ensure rural acreage owners (RAOs) have access to select commercial-class herbicides to control prohibited noxious and noxious weeds (as identified in the Weed Control Act).

Lakeland College offers an online course to agricultural fieldman-approved RAOs from their municipality. Eligible rural acreage owners take and pass the online pesticide certificate course administered by Lakeland College's pesticide certification office. This office administers Alberta's commercial pesticide applicator certification program. After successfully completing the course, the acreage owner takes their certificate to their agricultural fieldman who will supply them with appropriate commercial-class pesticides to apply to regulated weeds.
