Community Recreation Funding Grant

Rocky View offers grant funding to assist not-for-profit community organizations with general operating and capital costs associated with building and enhancing recreation, community halls, and other facilities located in the County.

Community Recreation Funding is distributed based on the County’s Community Recreation Funding Policy 317 (PDF).

Available Funding

  • Operational Funding
    The ongoing costs of running a facility or program, such as program costs, utilities, and small capital items under $5000.
  • Capital Funding
    Includes expenditures creating future benefits or a fixed asset such as a trailer, building, furnace, or roof; including both interior and exterior upgrades to buildings and land; or a tangible item over $5,000.

Application Requirements

Applications for both Operational and Capital Funding must include the following information in the funding request:

  • Purpose of organization/program (must be recreational or cultural)
  • How the funds will be used
  • Number of Rocky View County residents program serves
  • Current year operating budget
  • Financial statements (audited if available)

Applications for Capital Funding must also include:

  • Complete project plan
  • Complete project budget (supported by quotes)
  • Detailed Project Funding Plan
  • Community involvement (via fundraising, volunteer labor)
  • Anticipated start and completion date
  • Financial statements (audited if available)
  • Funding requests in excess of $50,000 may require additional information (eg. Business Plan, Life Cycle Plan, Feasibility Study).

Application Review Process and Timeline

  1. Application is submitted to the local Recreation Board for review and approval.
    • Applications for operational funding grants are typically received by the individual Recreation Boards at the beginning of each year.
    • Deadlines can vary with each Recreation District. Please contact the County or the local Recreation Board for further information regarding application processes and deadlines.
  2. If the application is approved by the Recreation Board, details are forwarded to County staff for presentation to Council.
  3. Applicant is notified in writing of Council's decision.
  4. If the application is approved by Council, the project may commence and invoices may be submitted to Rocky View County for payment.
  5. At the project’s final completion stage, confirmation must be sent to Rocky View County to finalize funding.
